THIS IS HOPE: THE HAPPY PLACE

By: Melody Logan, Director of Programs

At one of our recent group nights, we were outside with the “middles” – kids who are around ages 9 – 12. We asked the kids a question:

“Do you have a happy place: either imaginary, like floating on clouds, or perhaps a real place, like your bedroom or the beach?”

We ask this to help kids and adults think of the place that helps them to feel something positive. For some, their happy place is at home with their pet, for others, it’s a particular spot on a hike as the sun is setting.

When we asked, one young boy quickly answered:

“That’s my happy place, right there,” as he pointed to Billy’s Place.

What a joyous and rewarding moment knowing that this boy, who has been through so much, is finding hope and healing with us.
