THIS IS HOPE: SOMEONE TO LISTEN

By: Kris Friedman, Executive Director

I was talking with the kids at a Teen Chill group earlier this year and I mentioned that I know sometimes it’s hard to be at Billy’s Place because it’s hard to open up and share feelings with others.

Then a young girl who had lost her mom less than one year ago corrected me. She looked right at me and firmly said: “No, it’s not.”

She went on to explain:

“I want to talk about how I feel and talk about my mom, but my friends won’t let me. I want to be here. It makes me feel better.”

I’ve noticed that teens and young adults in particular, have so much to say and they just want someone to listen. Here at Billy’s Place, they provide that opportunity for each other.

We could have gone on for another hour that night, and they’d still be talking.

This is HOPE. 💜
