THIS IS HOPE

Spending time with the kids and families who come to Billy’s Place is such an honor for me, and I want to share more of these experiences so you can better understand the impact of this amazing community.

When I see a kid take extra time looking at the picture of their special person on the Legacy Wall, watch a brother give his big sister a hug, notice a kid who has been clinging to his mom, one day decide he wants to attend the Littles group on his own, and countless other moments—it means so much to witness these signs of HOPE ðŸ’œ

Here is a recent example that really touched my heart:

This is HOPE

During a family group, an 8-year-old boy was participating in an activity where he was asked to create an acrostic poem using the name of his special person. This boy’s special person is his sister, who lived with a congenital heart defect that required a heart transplant. As you can imagine, this family has spent countless days in the hospital and their life has been consumed by medical undertakings.

The boy was provided with various craft materials to complete his activity, but he was having a difficult time. That is until he saw stickers that resembled items from a doctor’s kit.

“These are perfect because she had surgery!” he exclaimed. The facilitator continued to encourage his excitement by suggesting he use the word “surgery” for the letter “s” in his sister’s name.

It was a beautiful connection and you could see the boy felt like he was not alone. He loved having an opportunity to share about his special person, his sister, with his peers.

These are the moments that drive what we do. And your support is what allows these moments to happen. Thank you!

We look forward to sharing more signs of HOPE 💜 with you soon.
