Make a difference. Volunteer at Billy's Place.

Volunteer

At Billy's Place, we believe in the power of community and the positive influence volunteers can have on the lives of grieving children and families. We invite you to share your time and talents to make a meaningful difference.

Share time & talent with kids & families

We can't do it alone. Billy's Place relies on dozens of incredible volunteers each year to facilitate groups, help organize and run events, serve on our Board of Directors, and more. We provide thorough training and support to make sure our volunteers and families have a meaningful experience.

Volunteer opportunities at Billy's Place

Group night volunteers

Peer support group facilitators, dinner helpers, and hosts help ensure families feel fully supported when they attend group nights at Billy's Place. We ask group night volunteers to commit to two evenings per month.

All group night volunteers attend a comprehensive training, known as Grief EDU, to help prepare them for the year. Group night volunteers also have the opportunity to volunteer at Billy's Place events.

Peer support group facilitators

Facilitators walk alongside grieving children, teens, and adults, providing a safe environment during support group nights in a small group setting.

In addition to Grief EDU training, facilitators receive additional training and a comprehensive curriculum. Continuing education of three hours per year is required to enhance your skills further.

You will learn many tools to help not only our families, but also yourself on this journey. As a facilitator, your consistent attendance is essential to Billy's Place and the families we serve.

Dinner helper

Each group night begins with a shared dinner (often pizza), where families can enjoy some casual time together. Dinner helpers help to serve the meal and clean up afterward.

Group night host

Hosts are friendly greeters who help with setup, welcome families, pass out name tags, and assist the dinner helper with clean up.

Board of Directors

Like all non-profit organizations, a Board of Directors governs Billy's Place. Our board is a passionate, diverse group of leaders with backgrounds ranging from technology to financial services to education. We all have one common mission - to work as a team to serve the families of Billy's Place.

The board meets monthly and is highly involved in the organization's development and growth, taking ownership of key results. Volunteer training and background checks are required for all who are interested in being on the board.

Administrative volunteers

We're a lean organization. As a small team, it's difficult to get everything done (especially for our ambitious bunch!). Fortunately, volunteers join us to help launch projects like our annual appeal mailing, our #BeThere grief awareness and support campaign in schools, helping us prepare for events, and more. This role is perfect for someone who needs a flexible schedule, but who is able to lend a few hours occasionally to help us push a key project forward.
